FBI Blames North Korea for Binance Hack

The FBI said North Korean hackers it calls TraderTraitor stole more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance on or about October 29, 2026. It published addresses linked to the theft and urged crypto businesses to block transactions involving them. The Secret Service said investigators had frozen a “significant portion” of the stolen crypto, without giving an amount.

Binance began restoring withdrawals in phases on November 1, 2026. It said it processed $4.649 billion in withdrawals and $1.01 billion in deposits in the first nine and a half hours, a net outflow of about $3.64 billion, or 2.1% of the $171 billion in assets in its October 28 proof of reserves. Binance later reopened more crypto withdrawals and restored withdrawals in five fiat currencies, including U.S. dollars, on November 2.
