TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed a Binance hack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean group, and described it as the largest crypto theft on record. TRM estimated that about $6.36 billion was stolen; Chainalysis put the total at about $6.4 billion. Chainalysis said its strongest evidence was Binance funds mixing with proceeds of a Bitget exploit previously attributed to North Korean actors. North Korea has previously denied hacking allegations.
In an October 30, 2026 update, Binance said it had reserved more than $6.34 billion of company funds to cover losses, including $5 billion already held in the stolen tokens. It said buying the remaining tokens could take longer where liquidity is low. The reserve figures do not include frozen assets; Binance said it had begun recovering affected assets for users.
