Ethereum Plunges 10% Single Trader Loses $220M

Massive Liquidations Hit Crypto Markets as Ether Plummets

  • A single trader lost over $220 million on an ether position during a wave of liquidations.
  • Total liquidations across crypto markets reached nearly $2.6 billion in the past 24 hours.
  • The largest liquidation occurred on Hyperliquid, with an ETH-USD position worth $222.65 million wiped out.
  • Approximately $2.42 billion of the total losses came from long positions, while shorts accounted for just $163 million.
  • Over the last day, more than $1.15 billion in ETH positions were liquidated, alongside roughly $788 million in Bitcoin.

Liquidations occur when leveraged positions are forcibly closed due to significant price movements, leading to major losses for traders. This recent surge in liquidations highlights the volatility and risks inherent in overleveraged markets.

In total, around 434,945 traders were liquidated within a single day as ether fell sharply by up to 17%. The majority of these losses stemmed from long positions amidst thin liquidity conditions.
