The first participating banks in Germany’s Sparkassen group began offering cryptocurrency trading through the existing banking app on October 19. The rollout is gradual, not a nationwide launch: each regional savings bank decides when to join, and 30 to 40 institutions are expected to join each month.
DekaBank provides the service, with Börse Stuttgart involved in custody arrangements. The group’s association told dpa that the initial selection includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Polygon, and that a substantial number of interested banks are expected to be connected in the first half of 2027. Sparkassen warns that cryptocurrencies are highly speculative and that customers could lose their entire investment; it says the product is for customers making their own trading decisions.
