Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies said a subsidiary has applied to become a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant to carry U.S. client accounts for permissioned markets on Hyperliquid. The application and the markets both need regulatory approval, and the company gave no timeline. Hyperliquid currently blocks U.S. users.
CEO David Schamis called the filing and the firm’s $802 million in quarterly deployment “the same bet.” The company said it spent $785 million of that amount buying 9.1 million HYPE tokens and $17 million repurchasing its shares. Kraken parent Payward has also outlined plans for permissioned Hyperliquid markets, while Intercontinental Exchange has agreed to work with Trade[XYZ] on bringing Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to the U.S.
