Digest: Curve Founder Defends DeFi Amid Memecoin Mania
In an exclusive interview with Crypto News, Curve founder Michael Egorov emphasized that decentralized finance (DeFi) remains more innovative than the speculative memecoin market. During the 2021 crypto summer, DeFi tokens surged, positioning them as the “future of finance.” However, this year, memecoins have dominated headlines, turning users into millionaires while some investors face significant losses.
Egorov highlighted ongoing DeFi innovations, citing projects like Pendle and Ethena. He argued that DeFi ecosystems, especially Ethereum, are pivotal for tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs), which could reach a $30 trillion market by 2034. Regulatory hurdles currently limit this potential.
Egorov also addressed web2 vulnerabilities, advocating for on-chain solutions to enhance security. He sees The Open Network (TON) as a promising platform for DeFi development, given its growing user base.
Despite the memecoin hype, Egorov’s insights reinforce DeFi’s long-term value and innovation.
