Vitalik Buterin Calls for EIP-8288 Maximalism

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin called for “EIP-8288 maximalism” in an October 19, 2026, post on X, arguing that heavy cryptography should be handled client-side rather than added to Ethereum’s main chain through new precompiles. EIP-8288, a proposal he co-authored with Thomas Coratger, would let mempool nodes aggregate signature and proof dependencies into a compact STARK for on-chain verification.

The source says the approach could reduce the cost of some private transactions from millions of gas to the low tens of thousands, but it does not report that EIP-8288 has been implemented or that those savings have been measured. It says inclusion is hoped for in a later “I-star” fork.
