Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe has submitted a draft proposal to redirect the 8% of block rewards now sent to Zcash Community Grants to a Network Sustainability Mechanism. Under the proposal, those ZEC would be withheld rather than enter immediate circulation. The change has not been approved.
Bowe argues that the grants program has enough reserves to keep funding grants. The proposal would leave its existing treasury untouched, along with the separate 12% funding allocation, miners’ 80% share of block rewards and ZEC’s maximum supply.
