SEC Implements Travel Rule for Crypto Operators

Thailand SEC Implements Travel Rule for Digital Asset Operators

  • The Thailand SEC approved the Travel Rule for Digital Assets, effective February 27, 2027.
  • Digital asset operators must collect customer and counterparty information during transactions to manage money-laundering risks.
  • Operators are required to verify the credentials of counterparties and retain transaction data for at least five years.
  • The rules were developed in collaboration with Thailand’s Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO).
  • SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon emphasized the need to prevent digital asset services from being used for illicit activities.

The implementation of these requirements aims to enhance anti-money-laundering measures in accordance with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force. This move is expected to bolster trust in Thailand’s digital asset ecosystem and facilitate its integration with global markets.

With the Travel Rule’s introduction, digital asset operators will need to prepare their systems by February, ensuring compliance with new regulations aimed at reducing risks associated with technology-enabled crime and money laundering.
