Senator Richard Blumenthal requested records from Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino in a letter dated October 22, 2026, after the Wall Street Journal reported that Tether had made a $6.3 million deal with Nxum, a marketing company co-founded by former White House crypto adviser Bo Hines. Blumenthal said the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations sought records of contracts, payments, communications and lobbying involving Tether and Nxum. He alleged that Hines had retained a stake in Nxum while serving in the White House and that Tether had coordinated the company’s lobbying on stablecoin legislation.
Blumenthal is the subcommittee’s Democratic ranking member and has limited investigative authority. Cointelegraph said Tether had not immediately responded to its request for comment.
