A Coinbase-commissioned report by The Block Research found that stablecoins moved more than $400 million an hour in adjusted transfer volume in the third quarter of 2026, with quarterly volume reaching $891 billion. It found that 73% of screened transfer volume occurred outside US banking hours. The report counted 293 million blockchain addresses holding stablecoins, but cautioned that addresses do not necessarily represent individual users.
The report estimated that moving 80% of international transactions onto stablecoin networks could add $155 billion to annual global GDP and free roughly $3 trillion in bank liquidity. Those figures are hypothetical projections, not observed gains, and the researchers said reduced bank lending could offset some payment benefits.
