Hong Kong debuts China’s digital yuan pilot, prohibits peer-to-peer transfers

Hong Kong has initiated China’s digital yuan pilot, the first such project outside mainland China. This collaboration between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the People’s Bank of China permits digital yuan transactions in local shops and internationally, with a notable feature allowing residents to top up their wallets with up to 10,000 CNY at 17 retail banks.
