Cardano nears 15x scaling following Leios merge

Cardano developers merged key Leios scaling code into the network’s main development branch, according to a development report. Work to select and retrieve the additional transaction batches remains unfinished, and Cardano has not begun testing Dijkstra’s new protocol rules on its public testnet. Intersect reported on 24 October 2026 that the testnet was still running under Cardano’s existing rules.

Developer Input Output plans to introduce Leios through the proposed Dijkstra hard fork, initially targeting three to five times the network’s current transaction-data capacity. It intends to seek increases to 10 to 15 times current capacity through at least two later adjustments, but those increases depend on performance tests and separate governance approvals. Operators would also need to register cryptographic keys to vote on Leios transaction batches; pools without them could still produce ordinary blocks.
