Bitcoin Volatility Calendar: Which Dates Matter?

Bitcoin.com News analyzed bitcoin price data from January 2018 to October 2026 and found that Fed events and U.S. economic reports often produced sharp moves in the first 30 minutes. The effect generally faded within hours and did not reliably raise daily volatility. Jackson Hole speeches were an exception, while CPI release days in 2022 were 79% more volatile than other weekdays.

The analysis found that bitcoin options expiry Fridays were no more volatile than other Fridays. U.S. tax deadlines also did not reliably increase volatility, though bitcoin tended to fall in the month before the April 15 deadline after years with gains of more than 50%.
