FINMA approves Switzerland’s first retail Bitcoin ETF

Switzerland’s financial regulator FINMA announced on 20 October 2026 that it had approved what it said is the country’s first Bitcoin exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Bitcoin and is open to retail investors. FINMA did not identify the fund issuer or give a launch date, so the approval does not mean the fund is trading.

FINMA said multiple providers had submitted or announced applications for Bitcoin ETFs. It warned that Bitcoin’s volatility could cause investors to lose a significant share of their capital.
