Switzerland’s financial regulator, FINMA, announced on 20 October 2026 that it had approved what it said is the country’s first Bitcoin exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Bitcoin and is open to retail investors. The approval clears a regulatory hurdle, but FINMA did not name the fund issuer or give a launch date.
FINMA said multiple providers had submitted or announced applications for Bitcoin ETFs. It warned that Bitcoin’s volatility could cause investors to lose a significant share of their capital.
