SEC flags tokenization high-risk in 2027 examinations

The US Securities and Exchange Commission added tokenization of securities to its fiscal 2027 examination priorities. The agency plans to examine it as an emerging trend in critical market infrastructure and as a high-risk area at clearing agencies; the document sets priorities, not completed findings.

Tokenization was not explicitly named in the SEC’s 2026 priorities. Cryptocurrencies remain absent as a standalone priority for the second consecutive year, although the SEC last included a dedicated crypto-assets section in its fiscal 2025 priorities.
