Coinbase’s Base leverages Chainlink technology to enhance developer capabilities

The Ethereum layer 2 network, Base, has revolutionized smart contract scalability by integrating Chainlink Automation according to a recent announcement. This pivotal move grants developers access to a suite of decentralized, cost-efficient, and gas-saving automation tools, marking a significant leap in smart contract technology.

Chainlink Automation stands out by slashing gas fees by 90% and facilitating complex tasks across multiple decentralized applications, akin to a Web2 messaging bus. This integration not only enhances the functionality of Base’s smart contracts but also aligns with Chainlink’s broader ecosystem, including its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol and Data Feeds, empowering developers to build more sophisticated and scalable applications.

With Base achieving a peak total value locked of nearly $450 million and supporting over 200 protocols, this integration signals a substantial boost in its ecosystem’s capabilities. The network’s robust activity, averaging 3.59 transactions per second, underscores its growing significance in the layer 2 space.

This collaboration between Base and Chainlink Automation is poised to redefine the boundaries of smart contract applications, setting a new standard for developer capabilities and potentially accelerating the broader adoption of Web3 technologies.
