DTCC Launches Tokenized Securities Service

The Depository Trust Company, part of DTCC, launched its tokenization service on October 28. The company says it creates digital representations of securities already held in DTC custody, rather than issuing unbacked substitutes. Legal rights and the depository’s controls remain part of the design.

The service initially connects to the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu environment; further network connections are planned for 2027. Authorized participants can move eligible assets between traditional and tokenized environments, but the launch does not mean every asset can circulate everywhere. It also does not establish widespread transaction volume or buying pressure for any particular cryptocurrency.
