Bessent Brings Alternative for Stalled CLARITY Act

Treasury Secretary Bessent said at Ripple’s Swell event on Oct. 27 that Treasury would work with the SEC and CFTC on crypto rules after the Senate voted 49-50 against advancing the Clarity Act on Sept. 15. His remarks described a possible agency response, not a replacement law or completed set of rules. According to some attendees, he also said regulators could set guardrails to keep crypto companies from being debanked.

Ripple said it was expanding work with Robinhood and BNY, and the source reported final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Swell’s main stage was set to open Oct. 28, with further announcements expected.
