MercadoPago and Nubank announced that they had paused crypto deposits and withdrawals after instability at an external provider. MercadoPago said the problem involved a risk-monitoring and money-laundering prevention provider. It said withdrawals were halted as a precaution, while crypto purchases and sales remained available; its app warned that deposits would be credited late and gave no recovery timeline.
Nubank said the problem did not affect its own systems or compromise customer security, and that its other crypto products continued to work. Social media rumors of an attack on Paxos, which holds crypto assets for both companies, were unconfirmed. Paxos had issued no report of an attack, and its status page showed no incident registered on November 6.
