Crypto researcher Stacy Muur identified 82 digital asset projects and protocols that reportedly shut down in 2026, including Balancer, Radiant Capital, Neon EVM and Step Finance. The list does not establish that every project had completed a shutdown.
Separately, DeFiLlama research published in August identified 100 projects that had announced shutdowns in 2026, including 40 in the preceding 90 days. It cited lack of product-market fit most often, followed by depleted funding, insufficient revenue and moves to other products. Blast announced a shutdown, saying it saw no “credible path” to economic viability; Step Finance shut down after a treasury breach, while Radiant Capital announced plans to wind down after a 2024 exploit.
