Riot shares surge on $28B AI lease

Riot Platforms signed a 15-year agreement covering 910 megawatts at its Corsicana, Texas, facility, bringing its future contracted data center revenue to approximately $38 billion across three leases signed this year. Riot said it will provide land and power infrastructure, while the tenant, identified as Anthropic in a company filing, will own and operate the computing equipment and cover operating expenses.

Riot estimates the project will cost $5.5 billion and expects to finance it mainly with debt backed by lease payments, but it has not secured that financing. It expects to deliver the first phase in September 2027, with rent starting within 60 days of delivery. CEO Jason Les said Bitcoin mining at Corsicana could begin winding down in summer 2027.
