Polymarket Introduces Card Payments During Betting Boom

Polymarket, a leading cryptocurrency prediction platform, has partnered with MoonPay to expand its payment options amid surging betting volumes. Starting soon, users can place bets using bank transfers, credit cards, and various cryptocurrencies, not just USDC.

In June 2024, Polymarket saw a record trading volume of over $111 million, driven by the US presidential elections. By July, this soared to $260 million. This growth underscores the platform’s increasing popularity.

Previously, users needed to use Circle stablecoins (USDC) for betting. The new partnership with MoonPay aims to enhance user experience and payment flexibility. David Rosenberg, Vice President of Strategy, emphasizes that this move aligns with market demands.

Beyond politics, users also bet on major events like Bitcoin ETFs and the Paris Olympics. Despite its popularity, Polymarket isn’t available to US users due to regulatory issues.

In May 2024, Polymarket raised $70 million, boosting its valuation to around $1 billion. This strategic partnership and expansion signal a pivotal step in enhancing user experience and accommodating growth.
