Fed, OCC Probe Bank Security: Report

The Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency began contacting U.S. banks on Nov. 2, 2026, after an Oct. 29 hack stole about $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Supervisors asked about suspicious transactions, service disruptions and cybersecurity weaknesses, while several major banks began reviewing their defenses. Reuters did not establish that the attack compromised U.S. banking systems.

The FBI attributed the theft to Tradertraitor, a North Korea-linked hacking operation. Binance pledged to reimburse affected customers and said it was unaware of specific discussions between U.S. regulators and banks.
