North Korea denied responsibility for the Oct. 29 Binance hack. Kim Yo-jong called the FBI’s accusation a “grave political provocation,” according to Yonhap, which cited a statement carried by North Korean state media. The FBI attributed the theft, valued by investigators at about $6.3 billion, to the North Korean TraderTraitor group; blockchain investigators also linked it to North Korean hackers.
Elliptic traced the stolen assets through about 12,000 wallets across 11 blockchains and identified more than 40,000 transactions. It estimated that only a negligible portion had been converted to cash. Binance said almost $3 billion in stolen funds had been frozen, preventing the attackers from moving or trading those funds, and said it found no evidence that its wallet private keys had leaked.
