Binance confirmed a $6.3 billion hack and pledged to cover all losses. It said it found additional breach points after initially suspecting an engineer’s compromised laptop. CEO Richard Teng said investigators had found no evidence that wallet private keys had leaked.
Blockchain security firm Blockaid said compromised signing systems likely enabled the theft and Ethereum’s EIP-7702 upgrade may have helped attackers bypass checks. Blockaid CEO Ido Ben-Natan said the funds could have been stolen without the upgrade. Ambire CEO Ivo Georgiev also said EIP-7702 made little difference because the attackers already had the ability to authorize transactions.
