Ethereum Approves Ethlabs Motion to Cut Block Times

Ethereum Institutional Backs Ethlabs’ Proposal to Speed Up Block Times

  • Ethereum Institutional supports Ethlabs’ motion to reduce block times from 12 seconds to 10 seconds.
  • The proposal, known as EIP-8198 or “Quick Slots,” has backing from over 20 decentralized finance (DeFi) founders.
  • Zcash holders recently voted to cut their block time from 75 seconds to just 25 seconds.
  • Solana has already reduced its slot time from 400 milliseconds to a target of just 200 milliseconds.
  • The implementation of the Hegotá upgrade, which includes EIP-8198, is projected for late in the development cycle following Glamsterdam.

The push for faster block times reflects increasing institutional activity on-chain and competitive pressures from other networks like Solana and Zcash, which are also optimizing their performance.

With Ethereum aiming for a reduction in block times, the move could significantly enhance transaction speeds, aligning with broader trends in blockchain efficiency seen across various networks.(Source)
