Zcash group offers $124M compromise amid backlash

Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) proposed moving 36,200 ZEC, worth about $46 million, from its roughly 91,500-ZEC treasury to a fund for future mining rewards. It also proposed giving up about 62,000 ZEC in future allocations and tapering its remaining funding until the 2032 halving. Together, the changes would redirect about 98,000 ZEC, worth about $124 million, toward future block rewards.

ZCG said the plan was preliminary and that a full proposal would follow for community consideration. If approved, it would retain about 55,200 ZEC; its reduced funding would run four years beyond the current allocation’s scheduled end in 2028. Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz and Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss criticized the committee’s accountability.
