Circle to end support for $313 million USDC on Tron amid compliance push

Circle, a centralized stablecoin issuer, announced it will cease support for USDC on the Tron blockchain, prioritizing compliance and safety. This decision, part of an enterprise-wide approach, aims to maintain USDC’s reputation as a “trusted, transparent, and safe” currency, immediately stopping the minting of USDC tokens on Tron. Despite ending this support, Circle will aid in transferring USDC to other blockchains until February 2025, addressing both retail and Circle Mint users’ needs.

Tron, praised for its decentralized structure, ranks as the second-largest network for stablecoin transactions, showcasing the significant role of USDC within its ecosystem. This move follows Circle’s distancing from terror financing allegations and its plans for a public offering, underscoring its strategic focus on compliance and market leadership.

The shift impacts $313 million in USDC assets on Tron, emphasizing Circle’s commitment to legal and operational integrity in the face of evolving regulatory landscapes.
